Why I Switched to Using Sony Cameras
*I do not work for Sony, I have not been paid by Sony to create this article. Everything you'll read and watch (in the video below) are of my own opinion.
A camera, much like a hammer or a stove is a tool to get the job done. In the right hands, it can create beautiful, timeless imagery, and in the wrong hands, well, not so much.
As a photographer, it shouldn't matter what you use to make your images. Let your work speak for itself. What you used to capture that image is irrelevant, as long as it works for you.
However, you're reading an article about my choice to be 'brand loyal,' to Sony. Why? Why would I choose to be loyal to a single brand?
That's a fair question! Here are three reasons I chose to be loyal to Sony as my choice for my camera, and you may be surprised to know that most of it had nothing to do with the camera technology.
It Feels Like a Mom and Pop Company
Have you ever been to a restaurant that knew your order already? Or headed to get your hair done and haven't had to explain what how you want your hair styled? That's the type of relationship that I've been able to establish with the Sony sales representatives over the years.
The sales reps know me. They know my work. They know my preferences. They pay close attention to what matters to me as an artist, a business owner, and as a photo instructor. That level of customer service isn't something I experienced at Canon–ever.
They Listen and My Voice Matters
When a company listens and understands their client's needs, wants, and values, they are better equipped to make improvements and shifts that align with those needs.
Sony pays particularly close attention to its customer's wants and needs. Every new update or upgrade to an existing line of product showcases that fact. They aren't just creating a product and trying to get people to use it, they're creating solutions to a problem being presented. I'm going to go on a limb and say, that's why they're the leader in driving innovation in the photography industry.
You'd be surprised what you'd learn just by listening to your customers.
The Community
Arguably, one of the biggest reasons for joining "the club" was precisely that–the community behind the brand.
If you've ever ridden a Harley, rode in a Jeep Wrangler, or wore your favorite team baseball cap, you know what I'm talking about. The comradery. It's incredible to feel like you have similar interests with other people you've never even met before.
I find that people who shoot Sony aren't divisive, they embrace all photographers, which I haven't experienced anywhere else.
Also, Sony invests in its fan base. Head over to SonyAlpha.com and see a list of FREE events around the United States that you can attend to learn, grow, and become a better photographer. Not to mention, you'll be introduced to people, just like you.
